It was a great pleasure to once again support the charitable activities of Walthamstow School for Girls (WSFG) earlier this year (2 July 2013).
Haseena Rajput (teacher) and Arifa Nasim (year 11 student) of WSFG organised a charity fundraising dinner in support of Karma Nirvana, a charity focussed on spreading awareness of forced marriages and honor killings.
As a leader in Asian Bridal services, we have great synergy and understanding of the ills of this social demon that plagues the Asian community, and as such we strongly support the work of Karma Nirvana and other related organisations.
Lubna Rafiq Academy donated a 3 Day Training course worth £1,500, and this was auctioned to the highest bidder on the night. Halimah Khan bid £350 for the course, and these funds were donated entirely to Karma Nirvana. Halimah has since enjoyed her training course at LRA, and it was a pleasure to have her.
The charity dinner was well attended by 130 guests including Mayor of Waltham Forest – Nadeem Ali, entertainment included student performances, speakers Jasvinder Sanghera (founder of Karma Nirvana) and Chaz Akoshile (joint head of the Forced Marriage Unit and Baroness Scotland of Asthal).
WSFG raised a few thousand pounds in total and it was a pleasure to contribute humbly. You can see a selection of pictures from the event below as well as some related articles.
